The Songs we Sing

One of the things that surprised me when I married Andy was the fact that he sings all the time…really all the time.  Most of the songs are made up and have some mentioning of Opal Dean, Winnie (the cat), or our names.  They are often to the tune other songs and they tend to bring a lot of laughther into our home.  For example, Opal Dean’s theme song for a while went like this (to the tune of the Ludacris song “Apple Bottom Jeans, Boots with the Fur…):

“We got that Opal Dean Dog, paws with the fur, all the other dogs are lookin’ at her.

She hit the flo’, next thing you know, Dean goes low, low, low, low, low, low, low…”

Well, since Bradford has been born, there have been numerous songs made up, mostly by Andy.  The songs have served different purposes: to calm a crying baby, to make him laugh, or just to entertain.  Here are a few:

The Original (written by all family members)

Dean Dog, she is a sweet, sweet breed.

Bradford, he is a sweet, sweet boy.

Dean Dog, she will protect you.

She’ll be your best friend for all of your days. (repeat).

Big Man, Little Man song (written and produced by Andy Nelson)

We got a Big man and a little man, hanging out in the house.

We got a Big man and a little man, hanging out in the house.

(numerous verses follow depending on what they are doing).

Ex. The big man’s watching a Braves game, while the little man poops his pants.

Cold Feet (also written and produced by Andy Nelson)

We got a little man with some cold feet.

Cold feet, cold feet…I got some cold feet, so please get me some socks.

I got some cold feet, cold feet, cold feet, will somebody please get me some socks.

Big Belly (again, written and produced by Andy Nelson)

We got a big big belly on a little, little man.

We got a big, big belly on a little, little man.

We got a big, big belly on a little, little man.

We got a big big belly…

Oh, the Sweet sweet Breed of Dean Dog (to the tune of Oh, the sweet sweet love of Jesus)

Oh, the sweet, sweet Breed of Dean Dog

Oh, how she loves you sweet sweet Boy.

Always loving, forever noble,

She will be with you all of your days.

Thanks Dad for always making us laugh!
